Pottery Barn Wannabe.

My high school bff Anita made this comment yesterday under my Eat Your Heart Out Pottery Barn post.
I wanted to tell you that I was inspired by this, and also loved the pillow. However, I don't knit and don't want to...and I don't think I have friends who do. So instead I bought a cream cable knit sweater at Care and Share for $1.50 and had my mom make it into a pillow cover for me. I love it! Thanks for the inspiration. :)
My gorgeous cable knit sweater pillow. Love!

If you haven't figured it out, Care and Share is a thrift store. Genius!

I instantly loved the idea, but I wanted to see a picture. So, I emailed Anita and asked her if I could see it and post it on my blog. Are you ready to see it? Get ready. It's amazing.....
I don't know why I am so amazed?! Anita has always been creative, and her mom, Linda, can sew. No, she can REALLY sew. (I'd bet money that she could sew Martha under the table. And she could bake Martha under the table, and leave her begging for mercy, but that's another post.)

If you're not already thinking it, get yourself to your local thrift store or garage sale and buy up every cable knit sweater you can find. I can already think of what I'd like to see on my bed, the girls' beds, my couch, a chair in the kitchen...the list is endless. Someone I know has been trying to decide if she should get a new sewing machine. Just in case you haven't heard me, I vote YES!

Now, don't think for a minute that I wouldn't take another one, two, or dozen that my dear friend Carisa, at A Little Knitting made. I know the reality (okay, maybe I don't KNOW the reality) but I know that it takes time. And I also know that she's not taking orders for them right now. So this "inspiration" could meet many of your wants and needs...and for what? $1.50 and the time to sew this baby up. Can I get an Amen?!

Thank you, Anita, for letting me share your pillow with the 10 people who read this blog. I will be looking for cable knit sweaters at thrift stores for the next ten years.

Thank you, Pottery Barn, for providing the inspiration for so many of us, which costs very little and brings so much joy.

And lastly, thanks again, Carisa, for my one of a kind pillow knitted with love and respected by many.
Have you heard that Carisa also makes the cutest hats EVER! Well, she does.
And Christmas is 65 days.
Wouldn't a hat look great with your "new" sweater?

  1. I loved this post...and I had to chuckle when you said "all of 10 people who read this!" yeah right! :) I was just telling my mom and sister that I have some old grain sacks in the basement that I am going to make into pillows and now I may have to go to a thrigt store also!!! Great idea Anita!!

  2. perfect for the fall and winter! thanks for the idea.

  3. ohhhhh kimberleeeeeee, thank YOU!

  4. Love pottery barn but to much$$ Love the cable pillow. What a great idea!

  5. You're right about my mom, Kim! She could bake Martha under the table...remember homemade whole wheat bread with peanut butter after school? Mmmmmm...

I did actually hit Care and Share again this afternoon (sharing the idea and the picture with you got me thinking about it) and bought up all their cream cable knit sweaters, plus several other shirts I want to try. (Christmas is coming!!!!)

We made another one, at the same time as the original sweater one, out of a vintage dress and put the belt from the dress around the pillow for extra flair. It's really fun!

  6. What a great idea!! I will be on the look at when I am at the thrift store on Saturday!

  7. Love the pillow! I'm sitting her contemplating cutting up two cable knit sweaters in my closet as I type. I don't really need to wear them when I can use them on my sofa, right?

  8. Oh I really love that and I have been trying to decide what to cover my throw pillows with. You have just given me the very best idea. Thanks.
