Favorite TV Dads

Last night long after the girls had gone to bed, Bruce and I sat talking about how great Ella's birthday had been (a separate post to come), plans for next week, and Father's Day. I confessed that as much as I love him, I didn't have it in me to gush over him, my dad, or his dad on the blog. I was kind of partied out. Instead, we decided to talk about Steven Keaten.

Steven Keaten is Bruce's all time favorite TV dad. I asked him which episode was his favorite, and he said something like, "The one where Mallory has rearranged the entire house and Steven ends up finding his pants and getting dressed on their front porch. No, I take that back. There's one where Alex and Steven are working on a PBS project that is just a classic! And then there's another one..."

After Bruce had cracked himself up many times by quoting the most memorable lines to me, (I remember none of them now) he asked me who my favorite TV dad was. He said, "I'm sure it's Bill Cosby, right." I said, "No, it's not. He's second." He said, "Oh my, don't tell me it's Michael Landon!" I said, "As a matter of fact it is. And thank you so much for your support." I didn't appreciate that comment one bit when Pa worked so hard to provide.

On this Father's Day, as you celebrate those great dad's that you have known, think about the ones that have given you some great laughs, plowed many fields (real, or on a back lot), and shared a part of your life.

Oh, and let us know who you come up with as your number one TV dad. We'd love to hear it.

  1. Pa....hands down! Not only was he a paragon of manliness, but also had a soft spot for his girls. Although he was Dad enough to teach them the tough lessons also. Steven Keaton even looks up to Pa! ;-) Amy Sterk

  2. I'm going with Bill Cosby as #1. But then, I love Phil from "Modern Family", too!
